About this game

Hi! I made this game for Ludum Dare 60! (link to LD60 game page)

This is my take on the theme “old tech”

Once you have enough old tech in your home, it’s only a matter of time before it all decides to break down together one day. So imagine what would happen if everything broke down on the same day. How would you react? Isn’t that a coup against your sanity?

The game portrays such an event in a light JRPG style, since I’ve recently played a lot of them and wanted to make something similar. The game has no level system or skill tree; it just gives you what you need to endure such an event without being overwhelmed by the game design.

How to play?

- Use WASD/arrow keys to move between rooms.
- During battle, use WASD/arrow keys or the mouse to navigate.
- I recommend searching for stashes of items while exploring. They may help you with the final boss.

If you get bored, try cheating with F1.

How the game was created in 48h

If you managed to finish the game and are wondering how it was made, this section is for you. This is a compo entry, and the rules require you to make the game in 48 hours. So, did I make the whole game in 48 hours? Yes: all the content, including the idea, art, story, and music, was made during the jam. In the last few hours, I ran around the kitchen recording SFX for the game on my iphone. However, many parts of the code were reused from my older games. For example, the dialogue system has been carried over from game to game for three years, and so have the overall progression system, most of the effects, and the shaders. I think I should clarify this, since the more projects I make, the easier it becomes to make a bigger game.

Basically, I start by making the things I’m least sure about, and while drawing, I leave myself notes about everything. Once the art is done and I start writing code, I don’t really think at all; I just do what needs to be done. After I combine everything and polish it, I send the game to my friends for playtesting, and then I make the music and SFX. But this workflow limits how many new ideas you can have. And since I haven’t won any jams yet, I wouldn’t recommend this approach if your goal is to win jams.
